Wailea was made for slow mornings and long coastal views — and honestly, the best way to see it is not through a car window. On an e-bike you are right there on the coast: salt air, palm shade, one beach after another, and no circling a parking lot hoping a spot opens up. If you are looking into Wailea e-bikes for a day in South Maui, this is how we would ride it ourselves.
Start at The Shops at Wailea
Every Tiki’s rental starts the same easy way: you meet us at The Shops at Wailea, 3750 Wailea Alanui Dr, for pickup. We fit your helmet, get you comfortable on the bike, and pull up your route before you roll out — every rental includes our live route maps, a free guide with Google links you can follow right from the phone holder on your handlebars.
The bikes themselves are built for this coastline. We rent the Trek FX+ 1S All-Road in Juniper — pedal assist up to 28 mph when you want to cover ground, and a thumb throttle up to 20 mph when you would rather cruise. Range is up to 50 miles on a charge, which is far more than a Wailea day asks for, and hydraulic disc brakes, a fit for riders 5’1″ to 6’6″ (up to 300 lb), and UL 2849 certification mean the ride feels solid and simple from the first block. Take a look at the full setup on our Our Bikes page before you come down.
The Wailea Beach Path: the ride everyone should do first
The heart of any day on e-bike rentals in Wailea is the Wailea Beach Path — the paved coastal path that links Wailea’s beaches together along the water. This is not a ride you rush. It is a roll-and-stop ride:
- Start at the north end around Ulua and Mokapu Beaches. Ulua is one of our favourite morning stops — calm, pretty, and a great place to lock up and walk down to the sand before the day warms up.
- Cruise the path past Wailea Beach. Wide sand, resort lawns on one side, open ocean on the other. On a clear morning you can see across to the neighbouring islands, and in whale season it is worth stopping any time you see other people stopped and pointing.
- Finish at Polo Beach at the south end. Quieter, local-feeling, and a natural turnaround point — a swim here before you ride back makes the whole path feel like two different rides.
Because the path is shared with walkers, keep your speed down, use your throttle gently, and enjoy being the slowest traffic in Wailea. That is the point of this one.
Three ways to build the day
Not sure how far you want to go? Our route guide lays out three ready-made rides, and every rental includes the maps:
- Easy Coastal Cruise (about 5 miles) — the relaxed version. Beach path, a beach stop or two, coffee or a snack at The Shops, done. Perfect if this is your first e-bike.
- Wailea Day Ride (about 12 miles) — the full Wailea day. The beach path plus the wider Wailea streets, more beaches, a proper lunch stop, and time for a snorkel along the way.
- Longer Adventure (up to 25 miles) — for riders who want to push south toward Mākena and the lava fields. A bigger day, and still comfortably inside the bike’s range.
You can see all three on our route guide — follow them exactly, or treat them as a backbone and wander. Getting a little lost in Wailea is low-stakes: it is all coast, and the ocean tells you which way is which.
Pack the snorkel gear — it is already included
Here is the part most people do not expect: every Tiki’s rental includes a full snorkel gear set, along with your fitted helmet and a bike lock. So a Wailea ride can turn into a snorkel whenever a beach looks good — and Ulua and Maluaka, down toward Turtle Town, are exactly the kind of spots where it usually does. Ride out, lock up, swim with the turtles, dry off in the sun, ride on. No extra rental stop, no extra gear run.
One honest local note: mornings are best for both riding and snorkelling. The water is calmer, the light is better, the path is quieter, and you will have the beaches mostly to yourself before the midday trade winds pick up.
Staying in Kīhei? Ride in from the north
A lot of our riders are actually staying up the coast, and Kīhei e-bikes are an easy way into Wailea without the car. Kīhei and Wailea sit right next to each other along the same South Maui shoreline, so renting an e-bike in Kihei and riding south gives you both towns in one day: Kamaole beaches and breakfast in Kīhei in the morning, the Wailea Beach Path and a swim by afternoon, and an easy coastal ride back. If that sounds like your day, our Wailea Day Ride route strings it together nicely.
Good to know before you roll
- Price: $69 per bike for an all-day rental. One price, the whole day — the bike, helmet, lock, snorkel gear, phone holder, route maps, and call assist if you ever have a downed bike and need a hand.
- Pickup: meet us at The Shops at Wailea, 3750 Wailea Alanui Dr.
- Bring: water, sunscreen, a swimsuit under your clothes, and a small bag for the beach stops. We handle everything with two wheels and a charge.
- Questions: call us at (808) 866-4676 — a local answers, not a call centre.
The short version
Wailea rewards you for slowing down, and an e-bike is the slowest, happiest way to cover it: beach path in the morning, a snorkel when a beach calls your name, lunch at The Shops, and nowhere you need to be in a hurry to get to. When you are ready, book your all-day rental and we will have your bike waiting at The Shops at Wailea.
